"Make up Make Up Make Up
Fashion Fashion Fashion.
Make up is here to stay
Racism and oppression, you may go away"
As we all know, fashion and make up are big businesses in the Mid-east. But which businesses should you support? Well, based on recent research I found a few make up companies that one should no longer support such as MAC, Clinique, Lancome etc. However, we found one rising brand which does have a store in the Fasaliyah tower and is worth investing the extra bucks at.
So I put this company to the test. I walked into a Lush store in Riyadh and was kindly greeted by the staff there. I also walked into a Lush store at an American airport as well as in Liverpool, UK. With all the customers that were already there, I was greeted very kindly at these stores in different countries. To add to that, the staff there were very keen on doing testers for their products, all without pressure to buy. The biggest icing to the cake was when I saw another Muslim woman there who was wearing the hijab in the UK store. That made my day and I will tell you why.
I remember a time in my life when I applied for a job at Zara, the branded clothing store back in USA. At the interview, I was told that I couldn't cover my hair but that I can only wear hijab during my break, which was absolutely ridiculous - totally defies the purpose of covering to begin with. What they fail to realize is that a great percentage of their customers are Muslim. How ironic is that?
Moving along, over the years, we have had recent negative commotion with Abercrombie and Fitch for their racist and discriminatory remarks against a Muslim employee who wore hijab. When the employee sued the company, she won!
So going back to my original story, seeing a Muslim woman working at Lush reminded me that victory is an ongoing process and that one should never quite. A few reasons why you should support Lush:
- Their products are organic and vegan suitable.
-They are environmental friendly. If you bring back 5 pods, you get a free face mask.
- They are not racist. They do not support unethical ways.
- They do not support or do animal testing.
- They openly support freedom for Palestine. For Muslims, that's a big deal.
Buying power can be powerful so what are you waiting for? Indulge yourself with LUSH for all the right reasons and buy with confidence!
