Vacations are synonymous with wedding week. Both can be used interchangeably. Next week is winter break and I am booked with wedding invites. So what can one expect when going to a wedding on the female side? -you can expect to not see the bride unless you are a close friend, family or photographer. The bride does not come to the wedding party as tradition narrates.
-expect heavy stage makeup
-lots of dancing, bakhoor, athar and food
-expect beautiful fancy western gowns and traditional wear worn at these events
-usually the music is Iraqi and Saudi (traditional bedu music)
-usually the dancing is 'urgis', not sharkeeyah
- expect to dance literally all night long in a beautiful fancy ishtrahah aka banquet hall.
If you ever have the opportunity to go to a Saudi wedding, make the most of it - leave your house as Dark Vater and when you reach the female premises, transform to the diva that you are! Then, you are truly livin' the Saudi life.
